February 2022 MTCA Session Thursday, February 24, 2022 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm RLM 12.166 Please register here by February 22 as dinner is provided for participants. Join us IN-PERSON for dinner & mathematics! Exploring Mathematical Thinking through Paper-folding with Altha Rodin Paper-folding can be used not only for entertainment, but also in the classroom to give students hands-on experience with concepts like angles, area, symmetry, and fractions, just to name a few. In addition, there is quite a bit of spatial reasoning and problem-solving involved in constructing an object from paper without scissors and tape. In this talk, we are going to use paper-folding in a different way: To illustrate mathematical thinking when confronted by a complex problem. We validate campus parking, provide dinner, and participants earn two CPE hours for each session. Free parking is provided in the Speedway Garage (SWG). Enter the garage on Speedway, between Dean Keaton and 27th street. Pull a ticket when you enter the garage. We will give participants cards to exit.
