MTC Online: Mathematizing Political Elections

October 27, 2020 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

Hosted by Kyle Evans and Megan Staples
The United States uses plurality voting for many of our political elections, and every four years, an Electoral College system is implemented to determine the winner of our presidential elections… but are these systems “fair”?
We examine alternative voting systems and their mathematical and societal merits given the context of electing candidates to office. We also investigate the ways in which mathematical modeling and Monte Carlo methods are used to predict election outcomes in our current system. Don’t miss this session taking place on Tuesday, October 27th at 4:30pm PDT!
