San Benito County Office of Education Virtual Math Talk

March 1, 2022 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

Please join us for the SBCOE’s virtual Math Talk session on Tuesday March 1, from 4:30-6:00 pm.

Our speaker is Dr. Alison Lynch. In her session, participants will engage in the interesting topic of Gerrymandering.  Every US state is divided into congressional districts that are used to determine political representation at the state and federal levels. Each district in a state has about the same number of people, but the way districts are drawn can have major electoral consequences! In this session, we’ll explore the mathematics behind redistricting and see how geometry and mathematical models can make our elections more fair.

Dr. Alison Lynch has taught mathematics at California State University, Monterey Bay since 2015. She teaches across the undergraduate curriculum, specializing in Calculus and proof-writing courses. She is passionate about helping students and teachers explore, make connections, and find joy in mathematics.
